Frequently Asked Questions

  • WHAT ARE PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Porcelain veneers are lab-fabricated veneers that give the ultimate aesthetic result. Dr. Kittell is passionate about giving her patients a beautiful smile.

At Smile Essentials, we have our own in-house digital lab, which allows us to make all of our crowns and veneers with complete control of quality and design.

Dental veneers allow for a conservative procedure with minimal tooth structure removal as compared to a full crown. They are a great way to get that gorgeous white smile makeover you have always wanted.

  • AM I A CANDIDATE FOR PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Porcelain veneers may be right for you if you are looking for an alternative to crowns, whitening, cosmetic bonding or orthodontics. They can help you if you have gaps between your teeth, teeth that are broken, chipped, irregularly shaped or misaligned.

To find out more about whether porelain veneers are right for you, contact Dr. Kittell to schedule a consultation.

  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WHEN I GET MY PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Before porcelain veneers can be placed on the teeth, their surface must be prepared for bonding. After administering a local anesthetic, Dr. Kittell will remove approximately half a millimeter from the surface of the teeth.

You will the be scanned by our digital scanner (NO MORE GOOP!) so that we can design your veneers digitally and fabnrivate them in our in-house lab.

You will leave the inital appointment with temporary veneers, which will allow you to evaluate the color and shape and provide Dr. Kittell feedback for your porcelain veneers.

Once they are made, you’ll return to Smile Essentials have them fitted, bonded and adjusted for shape and color.

  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER RECEIVING A COSMETIC TREATMENT?

Temporary veneers will be placed after the teeth are prepared. Special care will need to be taken while you wait for the permanent veneers to be made.

Because they are usually placed over the course of two appointments, it is normal to experience some sensitivity between the first and second visit when the teeth have been reduced in preparation for cementation. At the final visit, they will be permanently cemented to the teeth and you will have your beautiful new smile.

Dr. Kittell and Team will discuss potential concerns or risks you may have during your visit.

  • HOW ARE THE PORCELAIN VENEERS MADE?

All of our veneers and crowns are made in-house at Smile Essentials. We use Top of the line digital technologies to provide the most seamless appointments for our patients. By using digital technology, Dr. Kittell can offer beautiful, long lasting smile makeovers.

  • ARE THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES TO PORCELAIN VENEERS?

If you are not a good candidate for treatment with all porcelain veneers—due to some badly damaged, severely misshapen, decayed, or otherwise problematic teeth—Dr. Carolyn Kittell may recommend custom porcelain crowns to improve the health, strength, and appearance of each affected tooth.

Instead of covering just the visible front surface of the tooth, like a thin veneer, a dental crown fits over the vulnerable body of the treated tooth like a cap to restore proper form and function while creating a more ideal appearance that blends with the surrounding teeth.

For individuals who do not want veneers but are interested in making minor, purely cosmetic improvements, cosmetic bonding may provide a suitable solution.

Tooth-colored composite resin is incredibly versatile; however, not every patient is a candidate for cosmetic bonding.

Ultimately, the ideal treatment option for you will depend on a variety of factors that you and Dr. Kittell can discuss during your consultation. She will take the time to understand your dental needs and explain all of the options she offers that can achieve your goals.
